In-home senior care · Twenty years
Someone to look after them the way you would.
Flora's Nightingale places trained, hand-picked caregivers in the homes of older adults across the Poconos, New York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey. One caregiver, one family, for as long as it takes.
Flora answers the phone herself. Calls taken any hour.

Care we provide
Most of it is ordinary. That is exactly the point.
Lunch made the way they like it. Pills taken on time. A steady arm to the mailbox. The work that keeps someone in their own home is small, daily and relentless. It is what we do.
Personal care and hygiene
Bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting, handled with patience and without fuss.
Meal preparation
Shopping, cooking and sitting down together. Diets followed, appetites noticed.
Medication reminders
Doses laid out and prompted on schedule, with anything missed reported to family.
Mobility and transfers
Safe help in and out of bed, chair and wheelchair. Walkers, rollators, stairs.
Companionship
Conversation, walks, card games, the radio on. The hours nobody bills for properly.
Light housekeeping
Laundry, dishes, linens and tidying, so the house stays a place they can manage.
Escort to appointments
Accompanied to the doctor, the clinic and the pharmacy, and notes brought home.
Overnight and live-in care
Someone in the house through the night, for wandering, falls or plain reassurance.
Respite for families
Cover for a weekend or a fortnight, so the family carer can stop for a while.
Dementia and memory care
The same face every day, a routine that holds, and calm when the day goes sideways.
Post-hospital recovery
The first weeks home after a stay or a fall, when going back in is the real risk.
Not sure what they need yet?
Most families don't. Call and talk it through. There's no charge for working it out.
About Flora
Twenty years of other people's mothers and fathers.
Flora Connelly has spent two decades in home care, first at the bedside, then building the small network of caregivers that became Flora's Nightingale Staffing. She still works shifts. She still knows every client by name and every caregiver personally, which is the only reason the matching works.
She is deliberate about size. Families are not passed to a call center; when you ring, you get Flora. Caregivers are people she has worked alongside, not names pulled off a register.
Families usually call at one of the darkest points in a life. What Flora and her caregivers bring into the house is a little light: company, dignity, and the sense that nobody is carrying it alone.
We treat our clients as our family.

How it starts
One phone call, then a visit.
Nothing is signed on the first call. Most families ring at a bad moment: after a fall, before a discharge, or on the day they finally admit it isn't working. That call is free and you can make it now.

You call and describe the situation
Flora asks about the days, the diagnosis, the house and who else is helping. Twenty minutes, usually.
-
She visits the home
Stairs, bathrooms, the state of the kitchen, how the day actually runs. You can't plan care over the phone.
-
You meet the caregiver before they start
Matched on temperament as much as skill. If it isn't right, say so and we change it, no awkwardness.
-
Care begins, and you hear how it went
Schedules flex as things change. Families out of state get told what happened, not left to guess.
Our caregivers, our clients
These are real shifts, not stock photography.
Every face here is one of our caregivers or one of the people they look after, photographed with permission.
Where we work
From the Delaware River to the East River.
The agency is based in Milford, Pennsylvania, and staffs homes across four regions. If you are just outside one of them, call anyway. Placement depends on the caregiver, not the county line.
Milford and the Poconos
Pike, Wayne and Monroe counties, Pennsylvania
New York City
Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs
Long Island
Great Neck and Nassau County
Northern New Jersey
Bergen, Passaic and Sussex counties
Call Flora. She'll pick up.
Tell her what's going on at home. If we're not the right fit she will say so, and point you somewhere that is.
